How to Keep a Sketchbook with Joan Ellis: Monday, 4/21/25 at 2:30 PM

Come join a fun, educational, and entertaining art class on how to keep a sketchbook. Artist Joan Ellis, a longtime sketch-booker, will share her ideas, enthusiasm and tips for making a book of sketches, drawings and notes on your experiences. She will bring the materials for the class, and encourage you as you experiment on different types of paper using pens, colored pencils and watercolor paints. Keeping a sketchbook enhances your observation skills and allows you to be creative by producing small, simple sketches in black and white or color. Added notations help you to remember details about an incident, a bird sighting, a city skyline, or the silhouette of a mountain. This is a wonderful activity for all skill levels, even beginners!

REGISTER IN PERSON – There are 15 slots available to attend this art class. A $5 non-refundable materials fee must be paid in advance to reserve your spot. Registration is currently open to Atkinson residents and Kimball Library card holders.

Instructor, Joan Ellis teaches drawing classes to children and adults, and work independently as a Natural Science Illustrator. She uses graphite, Micron pen, Ultra Fine Sharpie, and India ink, often enhanced with watercolors or colored pencils. Her favorite subjects are local wildflowers, weeds, insects and birds.
