Historical Pop Culture – 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s: Thursday, 10/02/25 at 6 PM

Believe it or not, Teen Culture didn’t always exist. It was not until World War II, with men off fighting and women working in factories, that adolescents were left idle and unsupervised long enough to wreak havoc, and develop their own subculture.  Join Michael Barson as he discusses how Teen Pop Culture evolved in the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s —through movies, art, books, television, and music.

Michael Barson has a Master’s degree in Popular Culture and a PhD in American Culture and has written extensively on popular culture in his 12 other books. Michael Barson explored the History of the American Teen in his illustrated book Teenage Confidential. Copies of Michael’s book will be available to purchase and sign following the presentation for all those interested.

This event is sponsored by the Friends of the Kimball Library.
