We are delighted to showcase the remarkable artistry and craftsmanship of Cinda Gregorio for the Atkinson community.
The works featured in this exhibit began as black-and-white photographs captured during Cinda’s travels through Vietnam, Cambodia, Paraguay, and Morocco. Among the images are scenes of a Moroccan nomadic family and the home they created, as well as the breathtaking 12th-century temple complex in Cambodia, where centuries of history intertwine with the towering trees that have become part of the ancient structures.
Cinda transforms these photographs using a technique inspired by the early days of photography, when black-and-white prints were carefully hand-colored before the invention of color film. By blending transparent gel with oil paints, she creates luminous layers of color that preserve the intricate photographic details beneath. She then enhances the images further with photographic colored pencils, adding depth and fine detail. The exhibit also includes several of the original black-and-white photographs, allowing visitors to appreciate the transformation from photograph to finished artwork.
